Industrial Automation Solutions: Custom Engineered Systems

Industrial automation solutions are custom-engineered systems that combine robotics, controls, and material handling equipment to automate a complex packaging or process line. This is not just a single machine, but the full sequence of steps between them. These projects are typically larger in scope than a standard equipment purchase and are engineered around a specific process, material, or set of handling challenges.
Tinsley Equipment Company works with dedicated engineering teams that design and integrate custom automation systems for processes that don't fit an off-the-shelf solution. Examples include automating hazardous or reactive powder handling, building multi-station robotic assembly lines, and integrating robotic tray handling and filling systems into food-safe production lines. We also design systems around bag opening and emptying, robotic depalletizing, and other steps that are often still done manually.
Every project starts with an evaluation of your existing process: material characteristics, production rate, safety requirements, and how the new system needs to integrate with equipment you already have. From there, a custom solution is engineered rather than fitting your process to a pre-built machine.

A rare earth metals producer needed a safe and controlled way to process rejected powder that could generate a large amount of heat when exposed to oxygen.
The material still had value and could be returned to the refining process, but it first had to be transferred from an intermediate bulk container, or IBC, without allowing an uncontrolled reaction to begin.

One of our manufacturers recently designed and implemented an automatic depalletizer and bag dump station for a customer in the chemical industry. The system involves a robot depalletizer that unstacks 50 lb. bags of chemical powders from a shipping pallet located to the left and right side of the robot. The bags are picked up 3 at a time and placed 1 at a time on a conveyor that transports them to an inclined belt conveyor that discharges them into automatic bag dump station. In this article, we’ll provide an overview of the system, explain how the robot depalletizer system works using a vision system, and outline the features and benefits of the system.
