This automatic bag opener and emptying system can slice and slit open 20-110 pound bags and empty the contents into downstream conveyors or processing equipment. It opens various bag types including multiply / multiwall paper bags, polywoven bags, and burlap bags containing but not limited to coffee, flour, grains, nuts, sugar, spices, beans, seeds, salt, oats, corn, cocoa, peanuts, mustard, peppercorn, whey powder, corn flour (starch), chemical powders and granules, as well as active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs).

Process Description:
Bags are depalletized manually or with a robot and placed on an inclined infeed conveyor. The conveyor feeds the bags into the automatic bag opener where they are securely held in place as rotating blades slice open the bags along 3 sides for complete discharge.

Material from bag being emptied
The material inside of the bag flows by gravity while a rotating nylon set of wheels drives the discarded bag downward. A rotating auger or screw then discharges the discarded bag from a separate outlet. The product falls directly onto a conveyor or onto a vibrating screen or sifter that filters out large impurities or foreign particles. The system can be integrated into new or existing material handling systems and includes HMI touch screen interface controls.
