Process Description
Different blends of bird seed are conveyed into a surge hopper located above an open mouth bag filling machine, or net weigh bagging scale. The scale automatically pre-weighs the amount of bird seed, with an accuracy of +/- 6 ounces per bag inside of an internal weigh hopper, before it is released into a bag that is automatically clamped to the fill spout. Depending on the configuration and number of bagging scales, the automatic bagging machine can continuously fill up to 20 bags or more per minute.
An empty bag will automatically be picked and placed on the bag filling spout and filled when both bag-in-place switches are activated. An automated arm automatically retrieves the filled bag and transfers it down a v-shaped belt conveyor to be taped and sewed shut. Depending on the type of bag, a heat sealer can also be used to seal the bags. The bags will then be transferred to a robotic bag palletizer where they will be stacked uniformly on pallets. Smaller bags will be transferred to pick and place robots that will pick up the bags of bird seed and pack them into boxes.
