Valve Bag Filling Machines

Precisely fill valve bags with powders, pellets, flakes, granules, and fibrous materials.

Valve bag filling machines (sometimes called spout baggers) have a spout that is fully enclosed when filling through a "valve" on a paper or plastic bag. Valve bags are self-sealing or self-closing and do not require a bag closing heat sealer or sewing machine. This minimizes product spill and dust emissions resulting in a much cleaner work environment. There are four main types of valve bag filling machines including auger fillers, impeller valve bag fillers, gravity-fed, and air packers. The filling process can be manual, where an operator places a bag on the spout, or it can be fully automated using a robotic valve bag placer.

Individual valve bag filling machines fill bags at rates up to 12 bags per minute, or 720 bags per hour. The filled bags typically weigh 20-110 pounds or 9-50 kilograms and can contain powders, flakes, or granular types of products. Integrate multiple machines into a system to increase bag filling rates.

Auger Fillers

An auger precisely conveys materials such as dusty powders, powder + granular mixes, and semi-free flowing materials into a valve bag. These types of valve bag filling machines are automatic bag weighing and filling machines that simultaneously fill and weigh product directly into valve bags.

  • Fill rate: 1-5 bags per minute

  • Accuracy: +/- 0.5-1% of target weight

  • Bag weight range: 20-110 pound bags (9-50 kilograms)

  • Bag types: paper, plastic, and poly-woven valve bags

This machine bags hard-to-handle powders, flakes, and granules. Example products can include:

  • Sanded Cement Mixes
  • Flour
  • Chemical Powders
  • Bakery Mixes
  • Diatomaceous Earth
  • Guar Gum
  • Pigments
  • Rice Hulls
  • Cocoa Powder
  • Cottonseed Hulls
  • Control Air: 80 PSI required at 1CFM per bag fill cycle (base model does not require air)

  • Electrical: 110 volt / 3 phase / 60 cycle

impeller packer valve bagging machines

Impeller Valve Bag Fillers

A specially designed vertical or horizontal blade impeller conveys or "blows" materials such as fine, free-flowing powders with high bulk densities (50-100 pounds per cubic foot) into a valve bag. Material flows from a hopper by gravity into the valve bag filling machine, where the product is conveyed by opposing twin screws into the impeller that conveys the material into the bag. These are automatic bag weighing and filling machines that simultaneously fill and weigh product directly into the valve bags.

  • Fill rate: 1-8 bags per minute

  • Accuracy: +/- 0.5-1% of target weight

  • Bag weight range: 30-110 pound bags (13-50 kilograms)

  • Bag types: paper and plastic valve bags

These machines can bag fine powders with mid-ranged to high bulk densities. They can also fill bags with free-flowing granular and pelleted materials. Examples can include:

  • Portland Cement
  • Mortar Mixes
  • Stucco
  • Grout
  • Gypsum
  • Barite
  • Light weight cement mixes (vermiculite, polystyrene)
  • Kaolin clay
  • Silica
  • Graphite
  • Carbon black
  • Organic pigments
  • Oat and rice hull ash
  • Control air: 80 PSI required at 1 CFM per bag fill cycle
  • Electrical: 220 volt, 380 volt, 440 volt / 3 phase / 60 cycle
  • Dust collection: 600 CFM minimum
air packer valve bagging machine

Air Packer

This type of valve bag filling machine packages materials such as fine powders, powder + granule blends, and granular products that are not heated, ground, or crushed into a valve bag. Product flows by gravity from a supply hopper bin into the air pressure chamber. Air pressure pushes the product into the valve bag. During a fill cycle, the air packer’s scale continuously detects the weight of the product in the bag and automatically stops filling at the set target weight. A powered discharge chair tilts the filled bag backward onto a discharge conveyor.

  • Fill rate: 1-12 bags per minute

  • Accuracy: +/- 0.5-1% of target weight

  • Bag weight range: 20-110 pound bags (9-50 kilograms)

  • Bag types: paper, plastic, and poly-woven valve bags

This machine bags materials with positive flow characteristics such as flaked, powdery and / or granular products. Examples can include:

  • Concrete
  • Stucco
  • Grout
  • Sand
  • Refractory Materials
  • Bentonite
  • TIO2
  • Iron Oxide
  • Carbon Black
  • Plastic Pellets
  • Fertilizer
  • Seeds
  • Sodium Bicarbonate
  • Control air: 80 PSI required at 1 CFM per bag fill cycle
  • Electrical: 110 volt / 3 phase / 60 cycle
  • Dust collection: 600 CFM minimum

Robotic Valve Bag Placers

Robotic valve bag placers are designed to automatically place and both paper and block bottom plastic valve bags onto the spout of a valve bag filling machine. They can operate in hazardous duty environments and can be explosion proof. Bags enter the filling system via a bag indexing conveyor that "hands" an empty valve bag to the robot. Each bag is pre-opened and tested before a placing arm secures the bag and delivers it to each of the filling spouts. Filled bags are automatically discharged to an integrated bag discharge conveyor before they are taken to a robotic bag palletizer.

  • Bag placing rate: up to 12 bags per minute

  • Bag types: paper and plastic valve bags

  • Control air: 80 PSI required at 1 CFM per bag fill cycle
  • Electrical: 220 volt, 380 volt, 440 volt or 575 volt / 3 phase / 60 cycle
  • Dust collection: 600 CFM minimum
