Cage mill crusher was required by a client that wanted an efficient method to crush and size wet salt before drying.
First, wet salt from production is screened. Then, the over-sized material is precisely metered into a Gundlach Cage-Paktor® cage mill to produce a fine product. This is added to the unders from the initial sizing screen. Then, this mixture is sent to the dryer to remove the moisture from the salt.
The Cage-Paktor® cage mill used a drive motor to rotate the cage which contains striking plates to crush the over sized salt particles. Rotor speed controls the rate and size of crushing of the salt. The mill also contains scraper plates to prevent build up of material on the inside of the machine.
There is no sizing screen at the lower section of the mill. This reduces the amount of energy required for this type of production. Salt particles are fed into the center of the rotating cage and the particles cannot leave the rotor mill until they are of the required particle size. Cage striking plates can be replaced by swinging out the end plate of the mill. This eliminates the need to remove the drive system for maintenance.
